Site is up....

not too much content, but if anybody feels like writing some content for it, I would gladly put up a page (such as a how to brew page... which reminds me, I should link Johns site).

Anyhow, the schedule will be better edited as soon as I know what we're brewing on which days.

Can still use some side demo ideas.

Hmmmmmmmm Ordinary vs Special now which do you think I am?

All kidding aside, if I brew a 1.040 English Pale Ale it could be either as I read the style guidelines.

Ordinary is 1.032 to 1,040
Special is 1.040 to 1.048

The rest of the recipe is pretty similar but I will have to check that. Our goal is to brew something under 1.045 I guess. So either category will do. It just depends.

Who is the resident English guru fill us with understanding please.

I agree with the idea of trying to limit NHC entries under the COVBS name to those that we think have the best chance of scoring a medal. I believe we're all adults here and can respect the fact that the club, as a whole, is trying to earn a major achievement with the Gambrinus Cup.

If you enter your beer in an earlier competition and it scores well (the 35+ point idea?) then there is a decent chance the beer will do well in NHC. If you don't enter the beer in other comps and it passes muster at a club meeting then it can/should also be entered.

If we have two or three of the same style that have scored well or the club members think is a very good beer should we try to narrow that down to one entry or should they all be allowed a shot? We should also take into account how well a beer might age between first and second round and if the brewer has time to rebrew if necessary.

No brewer should be denied the chance to take a shot at an NHC medal, as already mentioned, beers can be entered without a club affiliation or even under the BN banner.

I've already had to harvest some of my Nuggets about 1 ounce (dry). And will have to harvest some cascades pretty soon... Otherwise most of my other plants are really lagging this year after having transplanted them.

We can certainly give our feedback and critique eachothers brew, but its up to the brewer if they want to enter their creation. This is just a hobby for most of us, and should be kept as fun, easygoing, and educational as possible.

I wholeheartedly agree. My intention was not to suggest that people don't enter their beers and get quality feedback from competitions, my suggestion was to only have the "good" beers entered under the Crown name with other beers being entered sans club or with the BN or whatever. I still feel as though it is sacrilege to even suggest this though, it doesn't feel very fun or easygoing. Please everybody tell me I'm wrong, I only mentioned it for discussion purposes.

As I eluded to in my original post if we use the America's Finest City competition as a litmus test for NHC, beers scoring say a 35 or greater get entered as COVBS while beers scoring less can be entered but just some other way.

Thanks Sven. I knew that wasn't what you meant. I just wanted it to be clear. I actually can't think of any current member who would be offended even by the harshest of criticism on their brew (as long as it is educational in nature-and it meant saving a few bucks in entry fees).

Your G-Cup strategy i think is doable, as long the club agrees they want to approach it this way. Perhaps a vote in the next meeting. This strategy is definitely one the whole club needs to completely understand and be supportive of…. And of course we still wouldn’t be able to deny any paying member the right to enter their beer under covbs name if they insisted.
_________________
Next Up: Dark American Lager, Irish Red, English Barleywine
Carboy: Quad, Beerflower Hop IPA, Flanders Red
Keg: Cherry Vanilla Porter, Cider
Bottles: American Barleywine, Imperial Stout
This is not an easy topic to broach, but when referring to the G-Cup, because it's a ratio of points vs entries, it may be necessary...even if it is uncomfortable. I don't know if I want to enter another comp to determine which should be sent in, but rather treat same style beers to be entered as we do with the Club Only Comp. We have some great palates in the club and would rather trust us than a bunch of unknowns.

Yeah, thanks Sven. This is what I was imagining when it was described to me. I like this line of thinking for a theme.
Ha! Awesome...just a single tap out in front of the booth...with the beer line spiraling all crazy here and there with lights, bells and whistles ending in concealed plate chiller serving cold beer to the consumer...fun.
